Menopause, Hormones, and Healthspan Connection - #44

Once women go through menopause, their risk of cardiovascular disease and having a stroke increases – heart disease is the #1 killer among women. Our risk of Alzheimer’s, osteopenia, osteoporosis, urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction, and belly fat all increase exponentially as well. Increased belly fat leads to insulin resistance, which leads to pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and again, heart disease.

What woman would knowingly sign-up for that? I do know a lot of women who fear taking hormones, who are so sure that they are going to get breast cancer and die if they do, and who haven’t had the opportunity to talk with their OBGYN about the current science, safety, and efficacy backing bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. At the end of the day, we all get to make our own choice. But, today, I want to, once again, spread awareness about hormone replacement therapy and why they support a healthy, long life for us women. I want you to understand the many health consequences involved in doing nothing.

My guest today is Dr. Tabatha Barber, who’s triple board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, menopause, and functional medicine. She is the host of The Gutsy Gynecologist Show; where she shares her wisdom and unique perspective with women everywhere to reclaim their health. By incorporating functional medicine into her women’s health practice, she is able to provide women with the tools they need to optimize their health and happiness, which, in turn, allows those women to pursue their purpose in life.
